APRIL 2019

April2019Bees

News

Great news for bees

With your help we've taken a big step towards helping bees and other pollinators across Hertfordshire.

Last week our county councillors unanimously backed a motion to adopt a Pollinator Action Plan. It was amazing to see every single councillor pledge their support.

With help from hundreds of Friends of the Earth supporters like you we managed to get messages to all 78 councillors before Tuesday's meeting, urging them to back the motion. Thank you so much to everyone who took action – it really has made a difference.

For now the Pollinator Action Plan is focused on the council's rural estate  – some 10,800 acres of land across Hertfordshire but we'll be asking the council to look at other areas in the county as soon as possible too. Plus we'll continue our efforts to encourage people with gardens, schools and anyone with a bit of land to improve Hertfordshire for pollinators.

April2019ClimateChange

Help spread the word about climate change

We'll be talking to the public from our stall at the SustFest Market Take over on 19th May. We're creating some fun resources to help them take small steps to get them started on combating climate change but we need lots of help to run the stall.

The Market Takeover will be a great day out with lots to do, music and delicious food. It should attract lots of people keen to know what they can do to help the planet, so this is a great opportunity to make a big impact.

Please sign up to help man our stall.

We've also been invited to the lovely end of summer Earthworks Summer Fair on 31st August. This is a friendly event where we always receive a warm welcome. We need help on our stall here.

A big thank you. Without your help we cannot run stalls like this.

April2019Plastic

Our call for a new law to phase out plastic pollution is gathering pace

After meeting St. Albans Friends of the Earth members, Anne Main MP has given her support to Friends of the Earth's Plastic Pollution Bill.

Now, ahead of crucial meetings with government officials, we need your help to show environment minister Michael Gove that there’s huge support for our Plastic Pollution Bill.

Will you write to Mr Gove and ask him to make our plastic law a reality?

April2019Balloons

Let's stop balloons from balloon releases in Hertfordshire littering the oceans

We're working with Plastic Free St.Albans to try and stop balloon releases which send harmful plastics far and wide to wreak environmental havoc.

Sign Plastic Free St. Albans' petition to Herts County Council, to ban balloon releases on their land. In line with the MCS Don’t Let Go! campaign, it includes sky lanterns too, because they also pose a threat to animals through ingestion and entanglement, and the additional hazard of fire.

Sign the petition now!
